SDGA Seniors Reclaim Sovik Cup
MARCELLUS, N.Y. -- The SDGA amateurs defeated the CNYPGA Professionals by a score of 17-13 in the 38th Sovik Cup hosted by Tuscarora Golf Club on October 3rd. This is the SDGA's third Sovik Cup victory in 4 years. The CNYPGA leads the all time series 21-15-1.
The 12 man SDGA team is selected from the Top 8 overall point leaders from the Senior Points List and top-4 overall points leaders from the Super Senior Points List.
The Syracuse District team consisted of Luke Hobika (Drumlins CC), John Harrington (Tuscarora GC), Walt McArdell (Foxfire GC), Jack Weinerth (Highland Park GC), Chris Smithers (Tuscarora GC), Bruce Levinson (Onondaga G&CC), Joe Babcock (Oswego CC), Tim Scheemaker (Tuscarora GC), Randy Young (Bellevue CC), Richard Volcko (Beaver Meadows GC) Nick Della Penna (Oswego CC) and Gregg Bilyeu (Beaver Meadows GC). The team was captained by SDGA President Bob Kawa.
The Sovik Cup is in honor of Greater Syracuse Sports Hall of Famer Larry Sovik, who won six Syracuse District Amateur Championships in his career.
