SDGA Captures 51st Mitchell Cup
FAYETTEVILLE, N.Y. -- The SDGA amateurs defeated the CNYPGA professionals by a score of 27 to 21 to take back the Mitchell Cup Sunday at Onondaga Golf & Country Club.
In the Modified Alternate Shot morning round, the CNYPGA won 7-5, but a strong afternoon by the SDGA squad (22-14 in the best-ball round) propelled the amateurs to a 27-21 overall victory.
The SDGA team consisted of Jim Hirsh (NYSGA eClub - CNY), Brett Cunningham (Beaver Meadows GC), Adam Butch (Beaver Meadows GC), Johnny Gruninger (Bellevue CC), Spencer Baum (Wa-Noa GC) Nick Bove (NYSGA eClub - CNY), Connor Wisniewski (Drumlins CC), Ben Gaulin (Cazenovia CC), Brad Monroe (Onondaga G&CC), Joel Jakubowicz (Yahnundasis GC), Michael Deblois (Cavalry Club) and Jackson Saroney (Drumlins GC).
The CNYPGA was represented by Dennis Colligan (Cazenovia GC), Jay Turcsik (Mark Twain GC), Robert Larsen (Onondaga G&CC), Tim Hume (McConnellsville CC), Nick Serafino (Timber Banks GC), Matt Jaynes (Corning CC), Eric Manning (Elm Tree GC), Rob Phelps (Vesper Hills GC), Trey Walewski (Meadowbrook GC), Jeff Reader (Cazenovia GC), Michael Morschauser (Cavalry Club) and Will Weimer (Stone Creek GC).
The Mitchell Cup is named in honor of William Mitchell, the former head pro at Onondaga Golf & Country Club. The CNYPGA leads the all time series 32-18-1.
